Why I'm running for Mayor

Many areas around town are  rundown, in disrepair, or unsightly.  Here are some areas that caught my attention.
There are however, pressing areas in need of attention.  Poverty and crime is increasing faster than the well-being and progress of our residents. Lets help each other to better our community. It's a job that cannot be done only by one person, but in unity.

I will divide in two sections the ideas and options for the Ogden community.
  1. Priorities
  2. Plans and projects.
A: Motivate Ogden residents to exercise their liberties and rights as citizens of the United States to vote. In 2010, there were approximately 29,500 registered voters in Ogden. Few voters, only 7,700 people, turned out to vote. I encourage all Ogden residents to register, learn about the candidates, and vote for the best person for the position.

My goal is to have at least 51% participation of urban voters in Ogden.

B: Plans and projects. Many have asked me why I want to run for the highest position in the Ogden city government. I would like to answer this question the following way: “I want to help better our city. I have the desire in my heart and a confirmation in my mind that I need to run. I look around at our scenic trails that have missing signs, parks in need of repair, and vandalized park restrooms. I'm not a political man. What I lack in political experience I can make up through the desire to serve. I'm aware of the heavy responsibility that comes with being the Mayor, and I can't do this without your support.”

I plan to work closely in conjunction with the Ogden City Council to determine priorities and work on what is urgent.

Welcome to Ogden. Over the years we have blossomed into a beautiful city. We have cultivated diversity and industrial growth that has refined and elevated our status. With growth we have undergone a transformation into a prosperous community.

This added growth has also brought struggles. As a candidate for Mayor I see changes that I want to address. These changes would bring additional growth and fortitude. As Mayor, I plan to continue the positive changes that we have made and make Ogden truly a place   worthy of recognition.                                                         Sebastián Benítez   
                                                                                                                                          
 I want to list my Objectives and project proposals as follows:

1. Reorganize and better distribute the money and budget of the city.
     A. Decrease the Mayor income by 25%, and distribute the 25% to the 7 council members. (Council members need better income to stay happy, motivated and be more comfortable to serve our community.)
     B. Better regulate all the incomes from employees working for Ogden City Corp.
     C. No tax increase for Ogden residents.
     D. Use the budget collected from each neighborhood for the proportional use of those neighborhoods.

2: Better control of Ogden City Corp. assets and properties, including:
     A. Vehicles, heavy and light duty.
     B. City machinery.

3. Security
     A. Zero tolerance for delinquency and vandalism.
     B. Zero tolerance for the abuse of city officials, police enforcement and residence.
     C. Zero fatalities for city officials and police man.
     D. Implementation of the use of body cameras with every official in the line of duty for personal security and to the residents.
     E. Create a life insurance for policeman for those who fall in the line of duty and for the well being of their family.
     F. Create a Municipal Ordinance requiring all renters in Ogden to carry renter's identification. Landlords and City Officials will know more about their citizens, tenants and neighbors, with the intent of reducing crime and building a cohesive community.

4. Zero beggars in Ogden city streets. Create a commission that helps the beggars regain their dignity as human beings. Offering them opportunities of work, assist with health and those struggling with mental disorders. Provide more help in recovery centers, and help them get on with their lives. We need to really help them not just give them alms.
5. Special attention to the maintenance and care of city parks and streets, building more sidewalks and gutter curves. Reduce the time residents must wait for street repairs and beautification projects.

6. Create voluntary projects of 5,000 to 10,000 people to help beautify and clean up our city with reforestation of up to 10,000 trees under the supervision of every volunteer. (More trees will bring in better air and cleaner atmosphere to combat smog). Work closely with all social groups, religious organizations to help Ogden look better and feel better.

7. Build a modern indoor aquatic center that's open year round, and look into the purchase of Zorbing Balls. Promote recreational mountain activities such as zip lines, sky cycles, and snow making machines.

8. Encourage the use of Ogden trails, such as the famous Ogden Waterfall, and negotiate with the property owner to provide free trail access.

 I understand that some of these proposals will generate comments and some dislikes. However, I'm flexible and I know how to listen to comments and ideas that will be better then the ones above. These are my basic proposals and I'm open to debates that will help better our community, to the present and the future. Thank you for your support and may God continue to bless American and Ogden.
